Wise Beyond Their Years

If you put aside the tantrums and bossiness, toddlers can actually teach us a lot about how to treat one another.  While my daughter constantly challenges my patience, one thing is for sure — she absolutely loves me unconditionally and I’m completely obsessed with her.  Now that she’s talking (nonstop), she’s been saying things that make me laugh, smile and even get a little teary-eyed.

My favorite thing is when she randomly comes over and gives me a big hug while saying, “I ‘yove’ you, mommy”.  In those moments, I know I’m doing a good job at this whole mom thing and have made the right choice to stay home with her during these years.

I eavesdrop on her during the day while she’s playing with her toys.  She will lovingly hold her stuffed animals and say things like, “I’ll keep you safe ‘yittle’ buddy”.  (In case you’re wondering, she’s having a tough time with the letter L and pronounces them as Ys.)
She also has great manners with our cat and dog.  I hear her say things like, “Excuse me, Rexy (our cat)” or “I’m so sorry, Rocco (our dog)”.  It’s obvious that her approach to the world is one of kindness and pure love.  I wish I could be like that all the time.
If we treated everyone the same way that we treat toddlers, or better yet, the way we teach our toddlers to treat everyone, how awesome would life be?   I can’t wait until my daughter is a little older and starts to really enlighten me.
I came across The Toddler’s Guide to a Happy Marriage and it’s filled with some simplistic, yet wise advice.  Sometimes I think kids have it all figured out.  The toddler answers to the question, “What do you need to have a happy marriage?” are both comical and heartwarming.  I’m reminded of something I heard a long time ago and it’s become somewhat of a life goal: spend more time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.  After all, these age groups include some of the best humans around.  Wouldn’t you agree?

My daughter is almost six and my son is two and a half, so my days are extremely dull (insert sarcasm here). I'm almost two years into my entrepreneurship journey and this community is my "passion project" -- I have a soft spot for mompreneurs and would love to support you in any way I can. ps. I'm always looking for guest bloggers.

  1. Right?! Without fail, when I hangout with people in those age groups, I feel like I learn more. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Great post! I agree, people under the age of 6 and over the age of 70 are the best humans around. When I am at a family party, they are the people that I tend to gravitate towards because they carry the least worry, drama and stress. Love your blog…
